Just a general query, I have the facility to block calls on my landline and occasionally do so.
Does anyone know what the caller would hear (if anything) after calling me?

Re: Blocked Calls On Landline
If using 1572 the message the blocked caller (and blacklisted caller) receives is:
Welcome to 1572 the person you have called has chosen not to receive certain types of calls a message can be left after the tone.

What annoys me is that when you 1471 a dodgy call to get the number, if you test it by dialling it back, you get "the number you have dialled has not been recognised". Why then won't BT decline to connect in the first place? Particularly if it's one of the automated messages supposedly from BT themselves with threats to cut off your internet.

There is a bill in the USA senate that will require carriers to verify that a number on your caller ID is real.
Lobby your MP to do something useful and get similar for the UK.
Or perhaps we should start a petition:-
