Mid range mobile phone
Looks like I might need to buy a new Android phone in a bit of a hurry. Current one is a Huawei P10 Lite, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, micro SD slot, 12MP rear camera, 5.2" 1080x1920 screen, Android 8.0.
Seems to still be available at about £180 new or about £100 used.
Presumably I could find a slightly better spec for <£200 these days? Any suggestions?
I don't really want a screen much bigger than this.
Scott.

Plenty of lists on t'internet. Huawei P still getting good reviews. I've had a succession of Moto G* phones and they have all been excellent.

I only really buy mobiles in the mid-range area, so I ended up with a Motorola Moto G4 as my current phone, which I'm very happy with and it's still running great, although the range has been updated since I bought it.
I see that Argos have the SIM Free Motorola Moto G6 32GB available for £140, which might be worth investigating as one of your options?

Slightly bigger screen than your current phone, but it seems like a good price for the spec, so thought I'd mention it.
If I was in the market now for a mid-range phone, I'd spend a bit of time reading through recent deals on HotUKDeals, just to get a feel for the current sweet-spots, but I'm not sure you've got time to do that?

Thanks. Looks like the least painful option right now would be a Huawei P20 Lite from Argos at £180 with a free £20 VOXI SIM (which looks like it will give me 45GB over 30 days, not that I really need it).
Should work well with my Huawei smart watch and other Huawei apps.

Mrs S has one of these https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/nokia ... ealType=sf and is very pleased with it. Currently £170.
There are 2 newer models 7 and 8 but I don't know the prices.

Been very happy with:
https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/huawei/y6-2018-like-new#contractType=payasyougo
Only 2GB / 32GB, Android 8 but excellent for my 'normal' use - only £49 delivered next day, slightly less via TCB.
Absolutely 'as new' and excellent battery. Out of stock today but keep looking! Other half has one as well and highly delighted. Needed to use IE to order on the O2 site if I recall.

Re: Mid range mobile phone
Both my wife and myself have been happy with Moto G phones of various versions.
And intriguingly, from the responses of others on this topic, you might get the impression that this is the world's best selling range - which its not!
Maybe Lemon Fool patrons are all seekers of value, rather than imagined status

very happy G6 user here (https://www.tomsguide.com/us/moto-g6,review-5455.html)
only issues:
- it's not as rugged as my old G3 (can't take it swimming)
- and the phone will die when the battery dies as I can't see how you can feasibly open it to replace it
- on paper it's got less RAM than your present phone - which might be a factor if you need lots of RAM?
otherwise it ticked just about every box i needed - including NFC for google pay which can often be missing on low-mid tier things
have fun

There's guides on-line for Moto G6 battery replacement -
This one is quite comprehensive, with a great series of walk-through pictures and instructions, but is really for an LCD replacement task, although you can get as far as getting to the battery and then simply swap it out -
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Motorola+Moto+G6+LCD+Assembly+Replacement/112291
Here's a walk-through YouTube video that more or less follows the same instructions as above, but in real-time -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=2gC0gnHTsOM
It may be worth bookmarking those for future reference - if you're all set on throwing it out anyway, then it sounds like you''ll have little to lose at that point, and it might make a handy glove-compartment phone if you can get it going again cheaply.....
As an aside, these cheap little mobile pry-tool kits are handy for jobs like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Opening-Repair-Smart-Phone-Disassembly/dp/B01K1X8DYU

Thanks
I'm pretty sure it can be done; also pretty sure that I'll mess it up, but I will give it a go when the time comes
I've got a bit of a blind spot when it comes to putting glued phones back together
- I normally get as far as getting everything working and then cracking the screen at the final push to put everything back together (based on trying to repair the same samsung J5 twice)
It is always good fun to try though - and I've already got the spudgers and heat pack
Have fun

Just for info, Argos are currently selling the Moto G6 Play for £99.95 -
https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7429055
That looks like a lot of phone for less than a hundred quid.

Re: Mid range mobile phone
I have had two Moto Es and currently a Moto G5S purchased 18 months ago. All brilliant Android phones. Motorola make very affordable decent phones that fit easily into your pocket. Mine is used a lot for Navigation with cycle.travel and Osmand+ on my Electric bike. Even the cheapest phones seem to have all the features one needs.

That's cruel! I have a Moto G 1st gen and it does all I need........... but a G6 at £99.95 is very tempting.

You can get a VOXI SIM worth £20 free with it too. That can give you 45gb of data for 30 days. I got one recently and I'm going to use it in a spare phone on a campervan trip to stream a bit of telly to my tablet.

The sentiment "interesting" momentarily crossed my mind, too.
Then I thought, 5.7"? Why do the d*** things keep growing? I value my comfort, and a b***** great big screen in my pocket is unhelpful. And I thought, whatever bargains are there today, there'll be similar tomorrow and at whatever future time the current phone ceases to be fit for purpose.
And if I'm really lucky, fashion will change enough to bring us back a successor to the Nokia E71.
