How much data required for Skype or Whatsapp call?

If I were to use my smartphone to call somebody using Whatsapp or Skype, with no WiFi available, does anyone know if one uses less mobile data than the other?

I did an experiment with Skype many years ago and can't remember how many Mb I needed per minute, but I do remember being surprised at how little it was.

Are you thinking about video calling, or using audio only?

No, only audio. It's just for very rare occasions when it may be cheaper to phone using mobile data than using the phone network.
