Most annoyingly the Ipad Air2 closes all tabs when the machine is switched off. This is with Safari.
Apparently it is since a recent system update. I have a dozen tabs open for various websites and lost them all.
I switch off at night to save battery but now no longer.

I turn off my wi-fi at night (though on a Samsung device). That saves battery and saves interruptions, and keeps tabs open. There is a separate option to close open progs, if I wish.

Can you not plug it in to the charger at night in sleep mode but with 'do not disturb' set up?
(I don't have any Apple gear but this is what I do with my Android phones and recently purchased Chromebook, which has a leave Wifi on in sleep mode option so all my open browser tabs and notifications are updated as soon as I lift open the screen every morning).

-Check your settings in "Settings / Safari / Close Tabs".
-Try turning off Safari iCloud tabs in the iCloud settings and see if that stops the tabs disappearing.

Unless the battery is very tired, I'd expect the boot process to use around as much if not more battery power than sleeping all night.
