Video playback tested on eight single board computers, including the Raspberry Pi 3 B+, Rock64, LattePanda Alpha, Asus Tinker Board, Odroid XU4, LattePanda V1.0, NanoPi M4, and the Khadas VIM 2.
All SBCs are shown playing the same local 1080p 30fps file, and then streaming the same file via YouTube. But which one is the winner?

Cont....Zorin OS is one of my favorite Linux-based operating systems to recommend to those switching from Windows. Why? Well, it is designed to look very much like traditional Windows. With Windows 7 support ending soon, Zorin OS should feel very familiar to those moving from Microsoft’s OS. Not to mention, it is stable, fast, beautiful, and relatively easy to use...

Atomic Pi x86 SBC review and demo. Includes hardware specifications, powering the board, running Ubuntu and Linux Mint, and a peek at the BIOS of this great little Intel-Atom-based, $35 to $50 single board computer.
As discussed at the end of the video, the Atomic Pi appears to be a rebranded Aaeon MF-001, produced for Mayfield Robotics as a control board for their scrapped Kuri robot

I've been reading some of the early reviews of the Pi 4B, and whilst the dual-monitor output is great, the reviews I've read seem to suggest that it's struggling to play back high-quality video media - even some 1080p stuff seems to struggle from what I've been reading.
Do you think this is something they're likely to overcome with better software optimisation for this specific release, or have they over-reached this time with wanting to claim their 4K dual-monitor achievement over the actual quality of the output itself?
Even with my reservations above, I continue to be amazed at the improvements they're making in this format of PC from each release to the next. It really is fantastic what they can achieve in that low-power / low-cost space nowadays...
Cheers,

There's some comment about that here:

If Upton says they will address the performance issues post launch I'd be tempted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm tempted to get one for the dual monitor option.

Thanks for that, and I agree that he does seem committed to improving the specific video areas that seem to be a bit of an issue with the early reviews of this Pi 4B version.
I'm not quite sure of the thinking behind releasing such early-versions of the Pi 4B for review, however, if these issues are commonplace across most of the early-adopters. It's not the best advert for the brand, and they really do need to deliver on the fixes if they're going to maintain their credibility, I think.
If it's that easy to do so, I can only wonder why they've not addressed these issues before release..
Cheers,

Re: Why Linux?
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/07 ... -chargers/
Cont....As detailed by Tyler Ward, the Raspberry Pi 4 has a non-compliant USB-C charging port and doesn't work with as many chargers as it should. Thanks to the open nature of Raspberry Pi (even the schematics are online!), Ward was able to discover that Raspberry Pi just didn't design its USB-C port correctly. Two "CC" pins on a USB-C port are supposed to each get their own 5.1K ohms resistor, but Raspberry Pi came up with its own circuit design that allows them to share a single resistor. This is not a compliant design and breaks compatibility with some of the more powerful USB-C chargers out there...

I am fairly knowledgeable about installing linux but admit that I don't understand these BIOS options like secure boot, fast boot, UEFI. I am just glad that my system works.

Very interesting:
"I let the Windows setup procedure run on first boot, until I got to the point where it became clear to me that it is now impossible to install Windows without a Microsoft account. Absolutely impossible."
And people marvel as to why I am still on Windows 8!
I wanted (still do really) to change to Unix after my main PC blew up - since replaced by an ex-lease Dell with Windows 8.1 - but when I looked I was horrified by what I found. Things had obviously moved on since as I last looked, many moons ago. There now seemed to be as many species of Unix as there once were personal computers running MS DOS in the days before the IBM PC. I just gave up before I even started.
