The 4a was released in Aug 2020 which means you have just over two years security support left.
Samsung are currently providing "at least" 4 years support from release which make the A series look a good buy (A52 just released)

Did you mean the Samsung A51 there? I take that to be the 5G version of the A50.
There is also an A71 which is the 5G version of the A70, I believe.
I currently have both an A50 and an A70, am happy with both, and will upgrade to the 51/71 this year.
I am not a particularly sophisticated phone user, however.

Ah, OK, the link you gave above didn't mention the A52, only the A51. I would go for the A52 then, if that is the latest, I plan to replace both of my phones this year.
The Google phones mentioned above are the other ones I am looking at.

One serious compaint about more recent motorola: they've crippled VOIP. Both removed the native android VOIP support, and done something to cripple the third-party VOIP apps available from the app store.
(Note, proprietary third-party protocols aren't affected, but of course the likes of skype, zoom, whatsapp, etc only work if both/all parties to a call are on the same platform, and carry their own serious risks).

No its not "full android" but a skin over the top that makes it different to the full android experience.
It might be more or less useful depending on your expectations.

Well yes, but it's full Android underneath, and it's generally pretty straightforward to tweak it so that it behaves in the way you want. Having recently switched from a phone with Android One to a Xiaomi with MiUI, the addition of a different launcher means the new phone now behaves in a very similar way to the old one.

You can still get the Marine Green Oppo A9 2020 from Amaon for £149. My daughter is very pleased with hers.
Check the reviews and see what you think.

Is that an ice cream? Sounds expensive.

To bring this to a conclusion, I have bought a Motorola e6 PLUS (no longer manufactured but still available via Amazon). Slightly bigger than my G5 but with much more capacity: 4GB RAM and 64GB of memory, expanded with an SD extra card to 94GB. It cost me £100 outright, no contract. Should do me nicely.
