How to stop accept cookie banners
Hi,
How do i stop websites from asking me to accept cookies every time? Is this normal or is it a setting i've changed? I'm using Edge.
Thanks

Re: How to stop accept cookie banners
Good question. Edge crashed the other day and when I restarted it I had to sign in to my favourite websites every time. Something has changed.

AdBlock Plus helps
Is that different from Adblock?
I have Adblock installed (on Chrome) and I still get loads of these requests to approve cookies. Having had a poke around in the Adblock settings I can't see any option to upgrade to "Plus". Only to "Premium".

No idea about Chrome. Wouldn't be caught dead using that!
I use Firefox.
In my adblockplus plugin there is a setting (click the cog) about banner adverts and cookie warnings.
Recommended filters
Block additional tracking
Block cookie warnings
Block push notifications
Block social media icons tracking
I have selected all and I don't get pestered.

Mike,
Adblock and Adblock Plus are two separate and unrelated applications. AdBlock Plus was the first adblocker available as a browser extension and AdBlock came later just for Chrome.
See https://www.pcguide.com/adblock-vs-adblock-plus/ for a full description.

BUT you have blocked the warnings...have you blocked the cookies recording you visit, or just stopped having the choices offered?

This is my concern too. I want the cookies blocked, not the warnings blocked as my computer slowly fills up with cookies and stops working, and periodically I have to clear them out. And that's in addition to my fears over how much data they collect about me!

Re: How to stop accept cookie banners
With Firefox, you can (somewhere in settings), have it automatically delete all session cookies when you close the browser. That’s the full-fat PC version. I don’t think you can do it on the Apple iOS mobile version. Once set, you can happily click accept all, safe in the knowledge that they’ll all be cleared out when you close the browser.

Re: How to stop accept cookie banners
You can block cookies in your browser settings - either all cookies or just third party.
If you block all cookies then any websites that need log ins like email et al will stop working properly, so the reality is you'll need to allow first party cookies on any browser you need to use for logged in services.
There's nothing to stop you using more than one browser and setting up a general browsing one with all cookies blocked, security settings on max to minimise/block javascript etc - just don't expect all websites to load properly...
Browser fingerprinting is an issue but has nothing to do with cookies...https://privacytests.org/
The cookie alerts can be minimised as listed upthread - I use the browser extension I don't care about cookies and some tweaked settings in uBlock Origin. It isn't 100% though, website designers will work around attempts to block...

AFAICS neither option is much help. The problem is the cookie jar filling up with cookies placed by the websites one visits just once, never to return. Typically happens when one visits a link in a thread such as perhaps the link you just posted!
Once the cookie jar is full, one's Mac stops working and they all need deleting which means logging back into every site one uses regularly, or selectively deleting which takes an age to do.

You can run site by site cookie allow/ delete lists with CCleaner (available for Macs) and just purge all the unwanted ones as required.
I've never had the issue you describe though as I don't use any Apple products...

The cookies are blocked in the security settings of how I configure my Firefox.

Select 'clear cookies on closure' option in your browser settings.

PITA that will be, surely?
Won't I have to log back in to TLF, email at al every time I visit?

Yes. But if you browser remembers your passwords in its password manager function then it's just click click.
