Given the length of the warranty, I think I'd rather wait until October for that.

+1 We've had the leaking heat exchanger in our combi replaced again recently - second time in 4 years. We always thought its failed because of hard water/limescale, but the last engineer had a more plausible theory that very cold snaps can freeze/expand the water moving around some internal parts and crack them open, particularly if boiler is not regularly used, inlet pipework is not well insulated or sited north facing.

But if the boiler has a frost-stat (which kick in at around 4degC) this simply shouldn't happen unless the boiler is switched off.
If, since it is a combi AND if it were the hot-water ('DHW') plate heat exchanger that failed rather than the central heating one - combis typically have both, then limescale (or sheer bad luck) is the culprit.
