If you go to B&Q today
you'll never believe your eyes
If you go to B&Q today
you're in for a big surprise
For 3 inch metposts that always there was
are absent now and I'm told it's because
The French owned firm are switching to European Standards.

According to the chap in the shop, B&Q are ditching the 3 and 4 inch (75 and100mm) metposts and now sell their own brand ones which their parent company (Kingfisher) sources in the EU, and are 70 and 90mm. It does explain why they were so cheap the other week.

Ironically the only fence posts they had in were 75mm.

A proper fencing supplier will have them, as well as kiln dried, pressure treated (class 4) posts that will last longer than lower grade ones.

Surely 1" = 25.4mm, so 3" = 76.2mm, not 75mm ? And so on

B&Q, in my experience, always have in stock one too few of whatever you need to do a job.
And they never know when they can get any more.

Timber sizes are usually now in "metric feet" and "metric inch sizes". A three-inch post is 75mm and timber is sold in multiples of 0.3m. Note that you now get less than you used to before metrication.

I think American timber is still in proper feet and inches.
