How much power?
I don't want to confuse the last thread on air source heat pumps so I'll start a new one.
According to my smart meter, in the last 12 months I've used:
3500 Kw of electric
10500 Kw of gas
1200 square foot detached with three bedrooms. No solar or PV.
I wondered how I stacked up.

Re: How much power?
You're either cold-blooded or have a well-insulated house or live in the deep south.
4 bedroom detached house with a ground floor area around 1700 sq ft, built around 1935 (not as well insulated as I would like)
West central Scotland
Elec: 6000 kWh
Gas: 30000 kWh
--kiloran

You are doing well!

Pretty poor I'd say Sorry my bad Four bed 1,620 FT2 completed in 1994. Electric 3,000 - 3,300. Gas 10,000 - 10,500. House empty during the day but two extremely fussy ladies home each night and in need of tropical temperatures. I like to fall out of my pit in a morning and feel as if I've just stepped off the plane in Florida . Loft and cavity insulation improved since completion. Monthly bills of £120 fixed for another two years. No solar or the like either. Tried LED's but most fail too quickly.
If you're house is occupied more during the day this would account for some of the difference.

Re: How much power?
Gas 22800 kWh
Elec 3444 kWh
Detached house 1600 sq ft, 3 bed, two lounges and heated conservatory. NE Scotland.
Kids left but we are retired, so occupied daytime, particularly in winter months.
Recently installed 4 zone central heating system to existing traditional radiators.
Zone 1 main lounge, kitchen/diner, font bedroom, bathroom.
Zone 2 TV lounge and conservatory (conservatory heats up now when needed even on coldest day, so getting far more use)
Zone 3 Main bedroom, shower room.
Zone 4 office/bedroom
HW is on 24/7 with HW vented cylinder.
The house heating is now more controllable/comfortable and our gas usage has shown a decrease this winter but it has been relatively mild weather.

Similar here. 30000 kw gas and 8500 kw electricity. Five bed Victorian detached in an exposed location, about 3,000 sq ft. Stone construction, 10 or 11 foot ceilings, no double glazing but very few draughts (because most of our mullioned windows are cemented in and aren't designed to open ). Heated by a thumping great Rayburn boiler in the middle of the house. Costs us about £2,200 a year in leccy and gas. Seems reasonable, considering everything else.

Re: How much power?
3231 Kw of electric
18570 Kw of gas
No idea of square footage, but 1950s 4 bedroom detached with 1960s granny annex.
30 year old uPVC double glazing, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation that probably needs increasing.
3 adults in the house, one of whom uses way too much hot water.

Re: How much power?
Seventeenth century thatched, couple of inches of loft insulation, mostly single glazed, 900 sq ft.
Storage heaters, 1970s vintage, immersion. Fan heater in the garage is a bit of a culprit.
12000 kw electricity, and about three tons of wood which is about 1600 kw.
OH saves surplus kettle water in a bevy of thermoses and uses it for washing up. In the winter we heat water on the two woodburners.
We heat to around 63F, and wear a wooly. The rate of heat loss is not linear. It costs waaay more to heat to 70F than it does to 65F.
And it amazes me how many people claim to be cost-conscious and yet don't have curtains or don't draw them. Well fitting curtains can be almost as effective as double glazing.

Re: How much power?
1970s built detached three bed bungalow. Combi boiler for heating & hot water, double glazed, cavity wall insulation but poor loft insulation - which I must improve, but the roof is so shallow pitched access is a pig...
Gas: 10,272kWh
Electricity: 2,160kWh
Two adults, home most of the time.

Re: How much power?
1960 3-bedroomed semi-detached in suburbs of Liverpool. Recently modernised and extended to c.1400 sq. ft. 2 retired people in the house most of the day. We keep the house pretty warm without being extravagant: hall thermostat set to 19 degrees Celsius, living room generally at 21 degrees, and a little cooler elsewhere.
Annual consumption:
Electric 3563kWh
Gas 11879kWh (heating and hot water)
Regards,
greenrobbie

Very interesting to see the variation in all these replies.
Mine is roughly 18500 kWh gas and 3400kWh elec - with a total cost on my current tariff of £1070 p.a. (1980s standard construction 4-bed detached, with half the double garage converted to a room)
Prompted by this thread I just updated my spreadsheet analysis on energy and solar generation:
Over the last 5 and 3/4 years since the solar PV panels were installed, we have generated 19500 kWh (with a deemed 50% export of 9750kWh)
This has resulted in a total of £3670 of FIT payments received to date, against a total energy (elec and gas) bill over the same period of £6700
Our usage in kWh seems very similar (for a completely different property type) to BJ's usage - but (even ignoring the solar FIT income) with a massive difference in cost!
