Sticking down vinyl

#633790

Postby Nimrod103 » December 13th, 2023, 7:09 pm

The floor in my kitchen/breakfast room is laid with two large abutting sheets of vinyl, with a fake wood strip pattern. The join in areas of heavy traffic is starting to lift and separate, made worse because I tend to trip on it. Any suggestions for what glue to use to fix it down? The floor underneath is concrete screed.

This would do it.
Assuming the floor is reasonably flat. And dry.

And what helps remove it I've tried working on reviving my kitchen floor and it takes massive effort to get the glue from the previous vinyl off.

"Contact adhesive" will do the job and can be purchased in small quantities

https://diy.evo-stik.co.uk/products/imp ... ve-cleaner. Some heavy solvents, though. Needs thorough ventilation, and not for people with breathing difficulties. :|

This is a perennial problem on Flooring forums... often with no answer.
On another forum a posted commented that he got on well with petrol, until he tried heating the floor to accelerate the process.

thanks bungeejumper, I've tried white spirit, isopropyl alcohol, WD40 but had most success with a soak with washing liquid and elbow grease.

As mentioned above, contact adhesive is what is most commonly used I believe, but I would use the spray on stuff rather than a tin of it for this purpose.
