Can anyone recommend how to repair a small chip which has appeared in my shower tray which was installed a year ago?

I would go back to the supplier as surely the tray must be faulty. It is not as if you are going to kick it with a pair of size 10 boots.

Shower trays should last for some years at least.

I had this problem a few years ago and the plumber repaired it with some special epoxy resin stuff specially for this. You wouldn't know where the damage had been.

How urgent should the repair be?

I meant does it matter if the stone resin gets wet?

I'm not 100% certain but I'm reasonably sure the resin-bonded stone material is impervious to water. So it doesn't matter if you carry on using the shower.

The kits to fix these chips are basically the same gel coat that is used as the surface finish when laying up a fibreglass structure, like a boat. It is dobbed onto the chip then left to cure or set. Then filed, sandpapered to shape and finally polished.

There are epoxy repair kits, for example on amazon, for dealing with damaged quartz and granite kitchen worktops which will likely be equally suitable for your shower tray repair.

Why not use something designed for exact job described?! :)
