I am about to replace the handrail on my stairs. I have obtained the appropriate handrail (mopstick) which is pine but looks colourless. I want to stain the wood to light oak. The question is what do I use - woodstain, wood dye, oil, wax or varnish? Any advice on application would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Re: Staining Handrail
I'd recommend a product from Osmo.

Something like this
https://www.osmouk.com/sitechaptern.cfm ... dWaxFinish
I've used their product for floors and it is brilliant.

Re: Staining Handrail
Another vote for Osmo. Did the whole of my shop floor with it, treating what was just essentially very rough planking, and the durability of the finish was quite amazing, plus so easy to re-apply if you need to.
