Re: A first TLF London Social....perhaps
I think the anonymity of this place (and TMF) is one of its benefits. One can say things here that one might be circumspect about saying to people one knows well. If you attend, are things ever the same again?
But I have to admit there are a few characters here whom I'd be intrigued to meet, not least those who strike me as quirky, although perhaps those are the least likely to attend any kind of social function.
If this ends up happening after Easter, I'll try and pitch up.

Loads of us have met, it does change the dynamic a bit but it's not a big deal.
Some (ex) Fools are some of my best friends.
And I've even dated a couple!

Re: A first TLF London Social....perhaps
There are quite a few people here that I'd really like to meet. I know Mel, AleisterCrowley and PinkDalek, and several others. I'd really like to add Its, NmNh, Julian (jgfw) and quite a few others to that group if at all possible.
I met Terry, TJH290633, at a beer festival once. Great, great bloke, much more than meets the eye (so to speak).
And I would dearly like to see some of our dear Fools from Fool-central; again. Jon, we love you, come back, all is forgiven!
Regards,
Chris

I might be up for a London social too.
Can we pick a central London pub with a decent car park please?

Good grief, we had enough problems with 'decent beer', you'll be asking for 'cheap' next!

If I can combine it with something else I might come along. It would be interesting to meet Stooz for the first time too!

Are you expressing surprise that I might come or that Stooz and I have never met face to face. We haven't!

I couldn't find a 'tongue-in-cheek' smiley...
But now I live on me bote on the Kennet and Avon I'm accustomed to paying £5 a pint for decent beer in some of the better parts of Wiltshire. Is that 'cheap' by London standards?!
In fact in the pub tonight after bellringing, I bought a round comprising a large Merlot, a pineapple juice and a pint of Ramsbury... £14.90.

The pineapple juice sounds expensive.
Glad to see you've come a cropper with the "pink marshmallows" elsewhere.

It's rather childish isn't it? Another forum I waste a lot of time on has similar, and it leads to some amusingly inventive circumnavigations, mostly deliberate misspellings.

It was discussed over at the Biscuit Bar fairly early on /viewtopic.php?f=21&p=15806
Somewhat tricky to follow in that, at some stage, the word prick (being used in a cooking sense) became willy but reverted back in the thread I mentioned.
I found it amusing, rather than childish, and the intent was understandable.

Yes I too have always wondered what happens at these Socials (stays at the Socials, etc) - I suspect as someone else who is not yet an investor (except through pensions) I would feel something of an outsider though.

I wasn't an investor when I first started going, to be honest I don't really consider myself an investor now and I certainly don't talk to people much about investing. How you feel is your choice

The Motley Fool ones were very much 'social' Socials - although inevitably there was some investment discussion..

As I work in engineering simulation, I would always be interested to talk to people about Computational Fluid Dynamics
