How about the George inn Southwark - the only remaining galleried coaching inn.
I appreciate this is better for those who can easily get to south London, but that issue exists wherever you pick.

I used to work near The George - nice place, but less easy to get to for people coming in from the north/west unless they are arriving at Moorgate

No, but we have tried to keep it within (or very near) the Circle Line to make transport equally 'easy' for people coming in to most main stations.
eg The Clachan is near Oxford Circus, which is a single tube journey from Paddington, Kings X, Euston, L'pool St, Victoria, Waterloo
No absolute rules of course - if there are enough people keen it could be anywhere, although as it's a London social it should probably be within Zone 1/2
