Nearly didn't make it through March of this year.
Feeling really unwell on plane back from skiing holiday. Went to out of hours GP at local hospital. Told not to move while she went to get a wheel chair. Personally wheeled me to the front of the queue at A&E. 3 hours later I was in intensive care.
Septic shock. BP 70/40 and dropping. System shutting down.
Wife told to round up any nearby kids and bring them to the hospital......
Survived, and now I'm on bonus time!
Sun is shining, Glass of cider in my hand. Just had a hug from a daughter.

Re: Bonus time
Well done to have caught the problem in time and going through that sure must make you appreciate life. What I often wonder is what causes this sort of thing.

Re: Bonus time
In my case I was on immuno-suppressants to treat something else, which allowed an opportunistic bacterial infection to turn into a liver abcess. I'm off the medication and living with the original problem (Crohn's) which is a pain in the [expletive deleted], but not life threatening.....unlike sepsis.
And the experience does indeed make one appreciate being alive!
