Aurora Investment Trust & Facebook into Fundsmith
As a holder of PAT, FGT, SLS, MYI, FEET ( not impressed ) and Terry Smiths Fundsmith
I'm looking at ARR ( Aurora Investment Trust ) has anyone looked at it and has an opinion. I have seen in commented on favourably in Moneyweek by Merryn Somerset-Webb.
I'm interested in adding this fund to my current selection...and I have spoken to them on their stock picking technique.
Final point, does anyone have a view on Facebook being added by Terry Smith's Fundsmith fund.
Thanks all.....

I like Somerset-Webb and value her views. I have had a look at Aurora. It is unusual in many ways, in respect of its fee structure, a very concentrated portfolio, no borrowings, and the manager is in effect running one of the investments, Hornby. Quite Buffettish in some ways.
I cannot find a full Annual Report, only a Financial Report which thus does not have details of the directors or shareholdings in the company and so on.
Might be worth a punt. Who is FEET by the way?

The whole point is that they are different. It would be worth reading their criteria for stock picking and I think that often it is by sticking to the usual suspects that we get the usual(often mundane) performance. Of course plenty who have claimed to have the answer by being different have come horribly unstuck; that is why I deliberately used the expression 'might be worth a punt'.
But do not dismiss them just because they have what seems an odd collection of investments.

Agreed. Of those I hold only Bellway.
I don't see what this IT adds to the usual suspects

I think for that very reason, it is a contrarian fund. I concur with Dod as usual.

It is worth noting that Phoenix have only been the manager of Aurora since Jan 2016 so the time period before then is not so relevant in this chart.
Having followed Phoenix as an institutional only fund for some time I was happy to be able to be able to invest personally when it was announced they would be taking over the management of Aurora. The Phoenix long term track record is quite impressive but it is certainly a wild ride.
