Can anyone tell me if there is a transparent way to tell if a trust is paying dividends by eroding capital?

The obvious way is by taking a look at the IT Annual Reports.

The AIC website specifies, on the Overview page for each IT, if the latest dividends were paid out of Income or Capital.

Thanks.. I had a look at "EAT"..sure enough, the divi was paid from " capital". I'm glad to see that the divi from Merchants and HFEL was from income.

Yes it is the obvious way - however, having gone down that route and finding information really difficult to decipher due to each company reporting data in different ways, with different terms, I thought there may be information out there which I am not aware of. But thanks for your comments, so helpful.
