Thoughts on BRSA
Looking for another IT to add to those I have and wondered what anyone thought about BRSA, for income? I have little US exposure and wondered if this might be a reasonable bet.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Thoughts on BRSA
Could I respectfully ask if you can identify BRSA? It seems to be Black Rock Sustainable Investment Trust. Not one that is discussed much here and I would have thought that spelling it out would be not un reasonable, at least on the first occasion. I have no opinion because I do not know it.

Funny, you should ask about BRSA (formerly BRNA). I just added it to my collection of IT's this last week. My objective was to increase my US exposure to other dividend paying stocks, as opposed to the growth/technology stocks held by my other US trust holding: USA. (Baillie Gifford US Growth trust), and also to enhance my dividend income.
When I bought it, BRSA was paying a dividend yield of 4.10%.
Re: Thoughts on BRSA
I don't know know too much about BRSA but I do hold two IT's in the North America AIC sector.
1) A recent addition, small holding in USA - Baillie Gifford US Growth - early days to comment and
2) An IT that I've held for 3 years now - MCT - Middlefield Canadian Income Trust.
Really quite happy with MCT - it provides just over 4% yield, similar to BRSA in terms of yield. I would say that the companies held in MCT are less well known compared to BRSA's Wells Fargo, Bank of America, General Motors etc.
Currently 76% of holdings are Canadian and 21% USA. The shares dropped by approx. 35% in the first quarter of 2020 so I guess it's not a truly defensive IT. Anyway, it's just different and I'm happy to hold for a while.

Re: Thoughts on BRSA
I've made two small buys into BRSA in Feb 2018 and June 2019. Looking at my records, the dividend has been 2.0p per share per quarter every since. The XIRR is just over 8% which primarily comes from the share price increase (163p & 177p for the two buys). The dividend reserves are ~0.5 years so my concern would be whether we are going to see any increases in the dividend in the near future, so you will be locking in with a new buy at ~4.0%.
BRSA is 77% US and sub 5% everything else.
So, on reflection, I would say it is a hold but not a "new buy".

Just for info, I remember that BRSA (BRNA) is held by the North American IncomeTrust (NAIT), so NAIT may give access to a wider range of holdings. However, I think the yield is lower than BRSA.
I also hold MCT and have done for many years. It went nowhere for years but keeps throwing off the dividends.

Not saying that NAIT didn't hold shares in BRSA once upon a time but I can't see them listed in the Jan 21 Annual Report.

Oh, thanks. They did hold them once because I remember wanting to kick myself for not realising before I bought both.
