It will invest in Private Equity companies worth at least $500 million - specifically long-term minority investments in later stage private businesses that are considered to have transformational growth potential and to have the potential to become publicly traded.

Pronounced 'Shehallion' simple really. Nice mountain in central Scotland.
Not of much interest to me because I am looking for income primarily. I expect though Baillie Gifford will do a decent job with this new fund but it make some time to show through.

Isn't it institutional only, something like a minimum investment of a million or so? The prospectus states
Ordinary Shares are only meant for non-retail investors. As such, investors in the Company are expected to be 'professional investors'
The State Board of Administration of Florida (acting on behalf of the Florida Retirement System Trust Fund) will have 40% voting rights, BG 10% and several US/Canadian investors around a further 35%.

Non retail investors, you are right, although I cannot find a minimum subscription. Not really relevant for these Boards by the sound of it.

The mountain has a conical shape - so was used to (indirectly) measure the Gravitational Constant by measuring the deviation from the vertical of a big plumb bob, caused by the attraction of the mountain (in 1776).

In small print in the Issue Statistics - "The minimum subscription per investor is US$5 million."

Strangely enough I discovered this last Friday evening at our Local History Society. It also introduced the concept of contour lines, quite indirectly, but it turned out that they were the best way to 'slice' the mountain for the purpose of measuring the mass. If you look at an OS map, just be grateful for those 18th century scientists.

The wording of the Prospectus does I think indicate institutuional clients only, I did wonder though if the likes of AJBell and HL may be able to pool clients to invest in this one. The same thing happenned with the Vanguard LifeStrategy funds first opened with a miniumum of 100k required but you could invest via a platform from £100 or a monthly of £25. For now though, this new launch looks closed to the public.
