JCGI - A Ray of Sunshine

The new dividend policy - to pay out 4% of the preceding year's NAV has born fruit, with a very substantial increase being announced.

Things could of course go into reverse, but so far, so good.

I find this disappointing, it will undoubtedly impact on growth. This IT was on my buy list but not any more.

I have a holding and am on the fence with this change.

Agree it could impact growth, but could also add concentration of better performers if the poorer performers are sold to fund the dividend.

I'm planning to reinvest to hopefully give a similar total return. It's been on a great run recently!

Be interesting to see how it compares with Baillie Gifford China when it gets fully up and running.

They should sell the poor performers anyway and reinvest in the business. The strategy that has worked well in the past

Other possibles in the Asia Pacific sector which high exposure to China include:

Pacific Horizon (PHI) gives about 42% exposure to China & Hong Kong, with virtually no dividend yield, or

JP Morgan Asia Growth & Income (JAGI) gives 44% exposure to China, but seeks to give a dividend yield of 4% subsidised from capital (currently 3.66%).

I hold BG Pacific which is the OEIC version of PHI but I wanted something which was a pure China play. I also wanted something which wasn't BG but I suppose I will end up with BG China. I am not interested in yield as I have no need for income and would rather the manager reinvested the money.

Perhaps it's a good thing, i.e. of late investors are chasing the NAV causing the SP to rocket. Meanwhile the company (JCGI) are finding value harder to find to reinvest in themselves, so they are seeking another way to reward the owners. Perhaps?
