Re: Schroder Oriental (SOI)
Thanks for that. I had a little cash in that particular broker account so mopped it up by buying some more SOI. Yes, I could have bought MYI in the same account at a higher yield - however, I'm keeping them somewhere near equal in weight. SOI has been rather more successful on the capital side, depending which period one checks.

I just stumbled across this one, as well. I note the 4th (final) dividend last year was 4.60p, so this year's final is a modest increase.

I saw this as well. However, I believe the second interim dividend to which they are referring is the dividend that was paid on 13th May. I may be wrong though.

You are correct. This second interim dividend was declared on 14 April 2022 by an RNS of that date and then paid on 13 May.
I thought the more important point was the reduction in the performance fee (although they do not seem to call it that) which was mentioned in the Chairman's statement

Whatever.
SOI seems to have been doing quite well over the years, so this morning I topped up a little more, making it one of my bigger holdings. This act of mine is oddly coincident with the conversation here today.

Is that a +5% increase in dividend? That'd be slightly ahead of the 5 year dividend growth increase ( see AIC link below). If so, that's encouraging.
https://www.theaic.co.uk/companydata/0P ... /dividends
(I don't hold shares in SOI..maybe a consideration for a future buy when dividends accumulate. ).

On 12 May they paid a dividend of 1.9p as the second dividend of the year. This third one is 2.0p and I calculate that is just over a 5% increase. Good news.
I sold HFEL and bought Schroder Oriental Income. It is doing fine for me. I prefer not to have to rely on a very high yield (and usually at the expense of capital growth, sometimes negative!)

But SOI's dividends re not equal; there is a much larger final dividend. I am not expecting a 5% increase for the year, but hopefully I'll be proved wrong ! To achieve a 5% increase for the year, we are going to need an 8.3% increase in the final from 4.8p up to 5.2p.
This approach of 2 interim divis followed by a third slightly higher has been reasonably common for them, but of course things changed when Covid arrived. I think we can expect the first two dividends next year to be 2.0p.
Some previous years (taken from https://uk.advfn.com/p.php?pid=financials&symbol=LSE%3ASOI)
2017 1.6, 1.7, 1.7, 4.2 = 9.2 [*]
2018 1.7, 1.7, 1.8, 4.5 = 9.7 (+5.4%)
2019 1.8, 1.8, 1.9, 4.6 = 10.1 (+4.1%)
2020 1.9, 1.9, 1.9, 4.6 = 10.3 (+2.0%)
2021 1.9, 1.9, 1.9, 4.8 = 10.5 (+1.9%
2022 1.9, 1.9, 2.0, 5.0 = 10.8 (+2.9%)
Red = my estimation.

Thanks for all these numbers. I have only held this trust for a couple of years or so and do not find their website easy to find what I want.. It will anyway be interesting to see what the final turns out to be.

Thanks I look forward to their Annual Report. In the meantime that fourth Interim makes an increase for the year of 8.57% which I find very acceptable.

Annual report out today, and is very encouraging.
In addition to the 8+% increase in dividend, the revenue reserve increased by 20% in monetary terms and is now 14 months. There is a cautionary note on sterling weakness, by overall very pleasing indeed.

Excellent. Will look at it over the weekend. I guess the weakening of sterling against the US Dollar must have helped. Many of the Far Eastern currencies are linked to the US Dollar one way or another.
