Loved this comment:
Speaking to Sky News, Mr Bird defended the move, saying that it was "not a lot of money to develop the identity" and it would "enable better investments".

Enable better investments!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????
How?

Well, it saves ink I guess - in line with the 'E' in ESG
I can't remember who first started this vowel removal nonsemse
Motorola had a series of phones called RAZR way back when (they appear to still be using the name)
I was convinced Tinder were branded Tindr but apparently not, having just checked
There was a Primal Scream album called XTRMNTR in the early 2000s

The singular "Abrdn" rebrand, announced on Monday, will mark the "next stage in the reshaping of the business", it said in a statement.

Any guesses on what the next next stage will be? since the above implies there's more (or less?) to come.

Arb.(I got my rebranding in first!)

Probably end up as a symbol, like The Artist Formerly Know As Prince
[edit; thinking along the same lines as Kiloran]
Or a colour...

Probably the ancient Egyptians, whose hieroglyphs had no vowel representations.

I only hope that they do not discard the vowels but rather export them to Eastern Europe, where they are sorely needed.

I remember when they were setting up a bank, amid all the Smiles and Cahoots and whatnots, and they paid a huge consultancy fee to come back with the name Standard Life Bank.

Ah, the good old days :)

"Fund management group Standard Life Aberdeen (SLA) is changing its name to ‘Abrdn plc’, which the company claims is a ‘modern, agile, digitally-enabled brand’.

The new name, which the firm said is pronounced ‘Aberdeen’, will be used for all the company’s client-facing businesses globally.

Chief executive Stephen Bird said: ‘Our new brand Abrdn builds on our heritage and is modern, dynamic and, most importantly, engaging for all of our client and customer channels.’

However, it met with derision on social media.

Reminds me of "Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust" rebranding to "F&C Investment Trust".
What does the "F" and the "C" stand for, I wonder...

At least when they change the name again, people will know who they are.
