I thought you'd have gone for the rasping sound of gas escaping from the nether regions

Re: The sound of electric.....
We used to occasionally play a tape of a TT motorbike race (no, I don't know why we had one, maybe just for this) when driving slowly through town, made the pedestrians somewhat concerned and attentive as they wondered where all the howling motorbikes were, so maybe go with that.

It could save on the cost of having to fit an electronic device with a speaker

Audible warning of approach, required but seldom used by cyclists. Used to be a bell, but can be the human voice. Reversing lorries do it these days, of course.

Thankfully the new requirement isn't for a bell or a beep sound. Imagine how unpleasant the street environment would be if all cars had to do this.

Pac man!
One of the advantages of electric cars is the reduction in noise - imagine how much quieter a town centre would be without ICE.
Then go and screw that advantage by adding a noise!
How about "Warning! Electric Vehicle Approaching!"
Meatyfool..

Anyway, it turns out the sound of a spaceship is the most favoured.

What's wrong with a playing card through the spokes?
