Hire Car Insurance

#209029

Postby EssDeeAitch » March 21st, 2019, 9:28 am

I will be in Australia for a month and will be hiring cars on two or three different occasions. I would like to but a short term insurance policy that will make it unnecessary to pay for the car hire optional insurance which in my experience is very expensive.

Does anyone have any pointers to this type of insurance?

I use https://www.insurance4carhire.com for European insurance excess cover, buying an annual policy. Haven't had to claim yet but the price is good!

I second Scott's recommendation - and I have had to make a claim!

I have an annual policy (do enough trips per year to make it worthwhile) with https://www.icarhireinsurance.com/ and they seem very good. I haven't had to claim (thankfully) so I don't know what the claims experience is like. Their renewal process seems very efficient and the last couple of times I've renewed, they've offered me a 10% discount to renewal (compared to new customer quote etc). I can't see that discount happening for ever, but it's a very nice incentive, and makes you feel wanted and want to remain a customer.

I used https://carhireexcess.co.uk/ for my recent trip to Australia.
I used Holiday Autos to find a hire car and got a Toyota Camry with Avis for the same price as others were quoting for a small car. Well worth getting something bigger if you're covering large distances.

I use direct-carexcess.co.uk. I have made a claim and it wasn't too hard.

I have had an annual policy with iCarhireinsurance for at least 5 years. Couple of years ago I had a claim for an incident in France - they settled very efficiently as per the excess limits of the policy.
