I think the price you'll get from an auction will be significantly less than that of private sale with MOT.

Most of the peeps at the auction, will be second used car traders (like the folk you drive past with a car for sale on their driveway), who will plan to grab a cheap car, do the bare minimum, and clear a couple of 100 on it themselves.

Ref: the auction idea...

Purely for interest sake (cos we have a likely buyer lined up assuming we can get it through the MOT) has anybody any expereince of how much this glass' priced £600 54 plate VW passat estate TDi n tatty condition-but-a-decent-runner might fetch?

There are also various nationwide services which will collect your car on a transporter - they do online quotes too.

I used Motorwise last year. It was a low-hassle (low payment) option as with the auction option mentioned above.

With an MOT easy £500 unless you have galactic miles on it.

Maybe of use to you guys... there’s a free online auction specificity for scrap cars, I used them and actually got more than Imit fetched on eBay and was done legally, removemycar.co.uk

Hope it helps.

You might be able to do it for less.

When I changed my car a few weeks ago and had the old one to sell, I also looked at short term insurance. However I then checked with my insurance company and found they would insure the old car (the insurance had been changed to the new one) for £20 a week up to a maximum of four weeks.

As it transpired I sold it within 24 hours and didn't need the cover for the extra week...
