Life sentence

Help, I need my head examined. :?

Ran out of my favoured carnauba wax wash at the weekend (Simoniz). Could have bought a 1 litre bottle at Halfords for a fiver, but Amazon were doing the five litre jug for £8.79 (www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00UBW3KOU) , so what the hell, it seemed like a no-brainer.

No brainer indeed. What was I thinking of? At 30 ml per bucket, each of which is enough for two cars, I've just bought 166 buckets' worth of car wash. At my rate, that's about forty years' worth of car washes. So all I have to do now is carry on driving till I'm 110, and I'll have got my money's worth. Eejit.

Don't think of it as "car wash"; think "family heirloom". Or perhaps "Brexit planning car essentials stock". You never know, if everything else goes to pot you could end up selling it by the capful for a tidy profit ;)

There are many options available to you which mean that this large plastic container won't be hanging around for decades:

- you could wash the cars more frequently. At your stated rate of usage, you're only washing them once a quarter!

- you could lavish 30ml on each car separately. This isn't the LBYM board, after all.

- you could start a car washing business in your neighbourhood.

I'm sure other Fools will be able to make further suggestions.

HTH,

Watis

Shocked! :o

Shocked, I am. All that water wasted. All that electricity for the pressure washer. That's no way to save the planet.

166 bucket from 5 L + 33.2 buckets per litre.

£5 for 1L =15p per bucket.

You paid £8.79 so at 15p per bucket you only need to do 59 washes to be in profit.

It appears you are (110 -40) 70.

You will use 166 buckets in 40 years so just ove 4 per year .

59 /4 = 14.75 +70 = 84.75

You only have to live until you are 85 to be in profit.

Well done. I would have done exactly the same.

Sell it to my friends son in law, he washes his car at least four times a week, even more if the sun is shining. I think he needs a more productive hobby.

Yebbut he says he only has 40 years' worth. I doubt that will last until Brexit.
