Sadly the Quick/Cheap/Good mantra assumes you have competent people in charge. If not its easy to be Slow/Expensive/Bad. One depressing thing watching 30 years of public facing software is that stupid design decisions are no less rare nowadays. Each new generation of systems analysts never seems to build on the experience of the one before.

It would quite obviously be more sensible if one were given a week, or more, to pay. Allowing only 24 hours smacks of a scam rather than a charging system.

Exactly - make it as difficult/complex* as possible and reap in the extra revenue from fines for missed payments. Or am I getting cynical in my old age ?

*Also the method used by utility/mobile/parking/banking/pension industries to confuse people and make it difficult to compare products and charges.
