Free Breakdown cover and car isurance.

Last month we had an issue with our mobile provider.

I did some comparing and noticed a better deal with Sky. I went to the Sky website and the headline was "TV from..." so I looked at what we were paying for the basic package and called them.

It seems our "basic" package we signed up for is not actually the basic one they offer now, and ours includes kids telly and so costs more. 2 mins later I'm on their basic package again, with the 12 month new customer discount, which means I save £9/month which coincidentally is pretty much the £108.50 I paid for Breakdown cover. We also saved £6//month on the phone.

Flushed with success I called BT as our discount ended in September (I was going to call in a couple of days to cancel Sport as the MotoGP season has finished) and we have Fibre in the road now. Another 15 mins and full fibre to the house (50mb replacing the 3.8Mb max we got over copper) and £12/50/month cheaper for fixing for 18 months. Add in the £6 saved on the mobile phone and that is just over the £210 I paid to insure the car this year.

I always haggle and compare the large bills (insurance, breakdown, energy, etc) but the smaller ones I've obviously not really kept as much of an eye on. Now if only I could find something to cover the £100/month we pay on VED :(

You really pay £1200 a year for VED!!!

I don't suppose it helps if I mention they won't let me pay monthly as it is only £35 a year.

Sadly yes,

One band M £570
one band K £325 (which would have been a band M if it was one day newer!)
One 1600CC pre 2001 £265.

So not quite £1200, but I bet it will be next year.
