(... well there had to be one! ) is that the ludicrous `Vnuk law' will not now be incorporated into UK law.

For those who have never heard of it the law stems from a 2014 case involving a Slovakian guy called Vnuk. He was working on a ladder when a farm tractor hit it and injured him. The tractor never went off the farm and was therefore not insured so the EU decided that all mechanically propelled vehicles must henceforth carry insurance, even though they never venture off private property, and even including things like ride-on lawn mowers.

One consequence is that it includes motor sport, so that a collision in a race would be classed as a road traffic accident, with all the usual insurance consequences. Although that part of it is under review it's still currently law in the EU, and it could be years - if ever - before it's amended.

Peripherally, ISTR it being decided long ago for a reason that escapes me, that rowing boats meet the definition of a "mechanically propelled", the oars and rowlocks being the mechanism for propulsion. This would have made Vnuk's Law even more ludicrous.
