I've been getting a few ads pushed at me for car subscriptions recently and had a look at the monthly prices. But from what I can tell, they're about double the monthly cost of owning a car outright. You still have to pay for fuel and parking, so having the rest all in seems a bit steep. Who are these plans aimed at?
From a faq at https://www.wagonex.com/howitworks
"Car subscriptions can work out cheaper than alternatives because they are all-inclusive. This means in some cases subscription can be extremely cheap."
Hmm.

And as often they don't have the money to buy one anyway, it says a lot about their sense
Paul (who has seen a marked drop in the number of sub 3 year old Audi S line and M Sport BMWs at the food bank this year, and a marked increase in foot traffic).

It must be a city thing. I'd never heard of them.
Of course, out here in the sticks where the buses don't run, you're pretty much stuffed without a set of wheels unless you're prepared to dial up a lot of taxis. (Which are also expensive along our country miles, and often hard to get because the drivers don't really want to come out this far.) But a friend in Cambridge did share a car with his neighbour, and that used to work out pretty well.
They shared the purchase cost and the insurance, servicing, repairs and VED fifty-fifty, but after that they allocated the petrol on a mileage basis. That wasn't too difficult - they just kept a book in the glove compartment and recorded their usages, and then settled up once a month. And they would each clean the car every two months. They had a proper signed contract for all this, which I believe you can find online.
The most important proviso was that, if A needed a car while B was using it, A would hire a comparable car and that would go into the ownership sums. Of course, they did find it preferable to negotiate their holiday dates in advance.

Interesting - wonder if we'll see more of that kind of thing with the cost of living crisis?

A similar system is quote common with private aircraft, small corporate jets, and boats. Shared or Fractional ownership.
I wonder if someone wants to share MrF's BMW - so far this month VED has cost more than fuel.
