Anyone have any comments re their own brand tyres?

I don't think they're actually branded Black Circle tyres. Just the cheapest no-name or unknown-name tyres they can get hold of. They say "The Blackcircles.com Value Choice tyres are carefully selected budget brand tyres which represent excellent value for money."

As Scott says - they're generally the budget ones they have handy.

The problem is you don't know what you are getting, so can't check out the wear, noise and grip ratings. Depending upon the vehicle and use they may not be well suited.

Generally I avoid skimping on anything that goes between me and the ground [1], but I run 'budget' tyres on the old Toyota, but only if they have good grip ratings. Not too worried about noise or wear for the 3-4k it does every year. If you're using them on a vehicle for site work or tip runs you might want XL sidewalls.

If the parachute is between you and the ground, I'd definitely not skimp on the mattress!

They're still the people to beat on price and service, though, R6. My local independent, which I contacted through BlackCircles, has been superb for tyres and brakes, and I have a lot of confidence in them. The summer before last they told me not to replace my rear discs and pads (as recommended by an MOT advisory), because they said I had 20,000 of safe driving left. And they sent me away without giving me an opportunity to pay them any money. That's not something you see every day.

Blackcircles are ultimately owned by Michelin, but they're pretty sharp on all brands. While there's a Blackcircles in my area, you won't catch me dicing it with the cowboys at Kwik-Fit.
