Male Blackbirds in garden!

#136634

Chasing each other round and round the place.

At least 3 of them, which is 3 more than we had any Blackbirds in the back garden, last year.

Entertainment!

Hi Slarti
How do you know they are male?
We have a pair of nesting Blackbirds in the garden and I can't tell them apart.
Must agree though the birds antics are great to watch.

The sexes are usually distinct, with the females brown. The young are brown with some speckles at first, but soon get their normal colours. You could have an adult and a juvenile male.

The male has a bright yellow beak and is very black while the female is a dark brownish black. I've found the males become very territorial at this time of the year.

In short, if it's a properly black bird, it's probably not a bird! ;-)

I think so, though we have only seen her in the last day or so.

Two of them seem to be taking turns at the bird bath, because as one flies out of sight to the right, another comes in from the left.

Fascinating to watch.
