Well that was an interesting few minutes.
Loads of flapping and squawking in and around the trees in the back corner of the garden and then a Jay chased by 2 or 3 Magpies drops to the ground in our garden. The Jay was chased around our tree trunks with the Magpies popping back up into the trees, which is why they were hard to count.
Eventually the Jay landed on the lawn and stayed very still. After a couple more pecks and wing buffets the Magpies flew up through the trees to the tops of them and then flew off into the distance.
The Jay sat on the lawn for about 10 minutes and then flew off in a different direction to the Magpies.
Never seen anything like it before.
