The first fledgling of the season, a blackbird, has been ground feeding under my feeder station today. I didn't know that blackbirds breed so early! Bluetits are still checking out the nesting box and surprisingly, two male and a female blackcap are still here. They are usually gone by now, arriving in October but leaving some time in February. Spring is certainly in the air .

Apparently so...
The breeding season lasts from early March...
...and the mild spring must have helped.

Re: Fledgling blackbird
It does seem early for a blackbird to fledge but the weather in February was particularly mild.
I sowed grass seed in the warm period* which is now through and will pick up as this month progresses.
* I knew it was a risk but we had a large area levelled by a big digger and the chance was too good to miss. The risk was having to resow later at the cost of another 40kg of seed.
