Sparrowhawk?

As posted over on Beerpigs Snug...:

I think it's a Sparrowhawk?

I guess when the cat dies and you then decide to put up feeders for the smaller birds, it's not too long before nature installs another predator (I think it's the remains of a sparrow in it's talons (1st thing in the morning, no glasses etc). At first I thought it was those leather straps bird handlers use and it might have been an escapee from somewhere, but probably not)

Almost certainly.

We had one take a pigeon at the bottom of the garden once, fascinating watching it dismember and de-feather it. Left nothing but the beak, and feathers. Great to watch.

My sister in law thought it funny to buy me that for my birthday about 15 years ago. I'd rather have had a PS3, instead she bought me a rock.

I'm just glad I cut the grass the other evening.
