Heard of hay fires but never compost bin fires, then again I am pretty poor at compost making, mine do not generate much heat. My compost bin (wooden pallets) has finally become well rotted, but it has been about 6 years since anything has been added, hardly speedy.
Still, will now be put to good use as I am moving to raised planters as less inclined (and able) to stoop these days.

I have a plastic 'dalek' bin. Gets stirred regularly to let the air in. Average time 6 months - 1 year to get useable compost. Not enough heat to kill seeds, so I'm careful what get's put in - field poppies and foxglove are OK (I don't mind little 'surprises' popping up) - dandelions and couch grass go in the council bin
