I always enjoyed Dread Zeppelin- performing Zep tracks in a reggae style, as Elvis would have done them...

My two suggestions would both happen to be Norwegian session guitarists/multi-instrumentalists.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9FyLsfDzw
'Toto - Africa (metal cover by Leo Moracchioli feat. Rabea & Hannah)' [28 million views]
This^ will give you an insight into his idiosyncratic style; 'Who said you couldn't have fun/smile whilst playing very heavy metal?'
The other goes by the name of PelleK, he does mostly vocals, in which he is quite astonishing. I understand his session work is mostly in film scores.
Check out his voice....

'PELLEK's 4 OCTAVE VOCAL RANGE (d2-c6)'
and on to...
'ADELE - ROLLING IN THE DEEP (Metal Cover)' [2.3million views]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdCRmO4lE7A
ps
Where is the line drawn, I mean some sane line. Perhaps with with screamo Adele version?
'Amyst - Rolling In The Deep (Adele Screamo Cover)'

That was strange, I was alternating between between 'Oh yes that was the Clash's sound', and 'Heavens this reminds me of the Beastie Boys'

Re: Fun covers...let's see them!
Playing the poetic licence card here. Technically not a cover but a spoof self parody by a non mainstream trio that run a close second to Led Zep as one the greatest 'rock' bands of our generation. There is something of a cover of a song of theirs, during the comical 6 minute sketch, which seamlessly flows into the opening number of their 2011 TimeMachine Tour.
Your volume gizmo should be set to 11 to fully appreciate the power and skill of this trio.
One of the better things that Canada gifted to the world.

I get a major jolt of nostalgia listing to Rush's 'Spirit'. Neil Peart on drums is just out of this world, but the kaleidoscope is so early/mid 70's and that period pre-punk when music seemed to rather lose direction for some years.

I remember back to when I was a teenager, Rush were reputed to be the loudest band you were ever likely to hear live.
Fun at the time, the long-term after-effects less so, but that's 'reckless youth' for you
