3/10. Satire on capitalism, greed and racism in USA using tele-marketing as the devil's hand of capitalism. Received rave reviews from critics (including Mark Kermode) who acclaimed it as a comedy, but personally I didn't find any actual laughs in it.

There are a few good ideas floating around in this film, but it's not well-executed and the first 20-30 minutes is painfully slow and plodding before the pace picks up a bit, but it's generally messy and unimpressive story-telling. Plenty of social commentary in the film but all of it is pretty heavy-handed and clunky. Main characters are African-American which gives a chance to tell a story from a different perspective, but I have the feeling that the critics are giving it an easy ride because of its African-American characters, after the recent Oscars-so-white controversy.
