7/10. Rating is for kids and teenagers, not adults. I expect kids aged 10+ would really enjoy this.

This film is a cross between "Love Bug" (featuring a VW with a mind of its own), a teenage coming-of-age film, and a standard CGI-fest with giant Transformer robots punching each other.

The heart and heroine of the film is a teenage girl who's a bit of an outsider struggling to find her identity and fit in with changes in her family, which is played very well by Hailee Steinfeld, who's probably got a bright future ahead of her. She finds a giant Transformer robot and makes friends with him, and everything trundles along quite predictably, and without much nuance, but with an internal logic, and the "troubled teenager" bit of the story actually does have a fair bit of nuance and a few moral lessons about family. Lots of scene set-ups where you think "I know what's going to happen next" and you're right. A fair bit of humour, but it's mostly geared towards younger viewers. Best joke in it was something along the lines of "You were taken in by robots called Decepticons - really? Wasn't there a clue in their name?"
