Not worth watching - Worth watching.

#295414

Postby PrincessB » March 29th, 2020, 2:41 pm

A touch of insomnia last night. Eventually smoothed it down by using beer, headphones and Nexflix.

I had heard that Pixels was supposed to be bad, so I watched it.

It is dreadful. However, if some YouTuber chopped it down to the few minutes that are worth seeing, it is also awesome.

One to miss, unless you search for the best bits which are great, it should be noted that the best bit do not have any of the actors in.

I've never seen Breaking Bad, and after a few minutes decided that I'd prefer to watch it while sober and gave up.

I then thought of Suicide Squad and it wasn't on there.

Had a rootle through the cabinet under the TV and found a DVD of Pacific Rim. Goodness knows how much upscaling my TV was doing or how blurry my vision was but it is just the ticket for an late night while being squiffy.

Pixels - 0
Breaking bad - TBC
Pacific Rim - 10 (if you've had a couple of beers)

B.

On Netflix, we've recently watched Mindhunter, which very neatly led on to Unabomber. The former tells the story of how the FBI developed profiling techniques for use in the pursuit of serial killers, the latter being about the FBI's pursuit of a serial bomber using profiling techniques. Both excellent.

I would recommend that you do indeed sober up and watch Breaking Bad, it is first class IMHO. :D

I don't watch a lot but I made an exception for Breaking Bad. Excellent!

Loved it
- but it led to me scouring the intertubes for things like https://reverb.com/au/item/1229232-sony ... apan-nagra
- which are a bit too tempting

As mentioned elsewhere - Breaking Bad then followed by prequel Better Call Saul - a treat that may take you through several weeks of lockdown.

There is one exceptionally bad episode - any takers?

If you can find 'House', and haven't seen it then that might be worth a try. It deservedly made Huw Laurie the highest paid actor for a while. The last couple of seasons weren't so good but the first ones were excellent.

Not worth watching - Uncut Gems on Netflix.
I managed the first hour. It kept nagging at me because Netflix reminds you to 'continue watching'. I managed another 5 minutes. Given up now. Terribly depressing and deliberately anxiety inducing. Give it a miss.

Just seen Prisoners directed by Denis Villeneuve with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Pretty good, red herrings galore and reasonably gripping at times. Well worth your time away from the constant news. 8/10

I know - I don't get out enough - but the 5th series of Better Call Saul is tremendous. Indeed Episode 9 is the best yet of the whole Breaking Bad/BCS linked series.

I've watched all of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Can't recommend BB highly enough. BCS is definitely an acquired taste. Its glacial pace and the unsatisfying character of Saul's brother were negatives.

Well if you liked the Karate Kid in 1986 then watching Cobra Kai with some of the cast brought back 34 years might give you a kick!

It’s just such rubbish it’s actually compelling.

Wax on Wax off!

Totally agree - however he has 'gone' I think by series 4 and the action come thick and fast as SG falls into the clutches of some unsavoury characters and his relationship with Kim becomes very interesting.

I'm probably the last person on the planet to watch the Sopranos, but just starting Season 5 and absolutely loving it.

Chuck didn't annoy me ( I could watch Mike McKean in anything though) but I agree that it has really gone up a couple of notches since

Also worth catching is the El Camino movie if you watched Breaking Bad and wondered what happened to Jessie

And to throw in a few not mentioned already - Gomorrah (Now TV), Unorthodox (Netflix), Bad Banks, Deutschland 83, and Professor T (All4 in the World Drama 'Walter Presents' section).

Seen Deutschland 83, I recommend it too. If you were around when Germany was West and East, this really brings home that time.

. . and then on to the equally good Deutschland 86.
