Occupied - Netflix

A 'near future' / 'alternative history' drama series based on an idea by the author Jo Nesbo.

Norway elects a Green Party government who promptly announces it is shutting down all Norwegian oil and gas production to prevent further climate change, and instead will focus on development of a new type of safe nuclear power.

The problem is conflict in the middle east has left the EU very dependent on North Sea oil and gas, whilst America has retreated inward and withdrawn from NATO after it became self-sufficient in energy so isn't that interested in some minor foreign issue that doesn't impact it. And so Russia steps in to 'persuade' Norway to temporarily restart production to help its EU friends.

What I thought was interesting was how it represented the choices the people of an occupied company have to make; to ignore the issue and carry on as normal, to resist and fight (are you a freedom fighter or terrorist), or to consider it an opportunity to make money / gain power. And what might cause people to move from one of those positions to another.

Given the lack of much new content on Netflix, this is certainly one of the better series from the last few years. Starts tailing off a little in the third series but well worth a view.

Watched this a few years back on Sky Arts or similar.
Was quite 'different'. Enjoyed it.
