There are two powerful real-life dramas occupying the 9pm slot this week.
ITV Sun-Thu
Anne has Maxine Peake playing campaigner Anne Williams, mother of Hillsborough victim 15 year old Kevin.
https://www.itv.com/hub/anne/2a5505BBC Mon-Wed
Four Lives is the story of the Stephen Port murders, with Sheridan Smith as the mother of the first victim.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m00134hr/four-livesBoth are really good (so far at least), although neither are exactly happy watching.....

Am watching Four Lives
looks promising as the obvious villain can't be the one who did it... surely

Maine Peake is a superb actress, but I'm not sure the subject interests me too much. Blinkered, I know, but one does feel the need to be selective when there's never a shortage of one "essential" series after another.

If you don't want a spoiler I suggest you don't read the first sentence of the description of the series on the BBC. (Though I'm surprised you managed to avoid it so far.)
Scott.

Thanks Scott
I don't often look at programmes on the BBC website, (I presume that's what you meant)
and I will even less now
cheers

Ah, well, if you don't remember the real-life events (well covered on the news at the time), then I fear I've already given the who-did-it away!

However, in both dramas the villains are the police...

Well if you think that then you didn't read my OP in the first place, but the drama is not a whodunnit -- the fact that there was an obvious villain is the whole point!

Your first post had links but didn't mention who did it, presumably the links did, but I didn't click on them
as I didn't want to know
viewtopic.php?f=61&t=32758#p470087Thanks for spoiling it for everyone

The first post literally said "the story of the ...". Didn't spoil it for me as I wasn't expecting a "whodunnit".
Scott.

and your point is.....
(as that doesn't say who did it)
English can be ambiguous, but unless Stephen Port was murdered more than once...

Well, "Stephen Port" can't be the victim as "murders" is plural, so what do you think "Stephen Port" refers to in the above? Especially as you read it
after seeing the first episode and saw there was a major character called Stephen Port who is the "obvious villain" ...

Indeed, although I must admit it didn't occur to me that Stephen Port could be a seaside town ...

Well, if you consider my OP as "giving it away", then yes. But now that you understand that it isn't actually a whodunnit 'cos it's a real life story with the villain already widely known (and, as you say, obvious from the outset anyway), you can now concentrate on what the drama is really about.

I struggle to think how you'd describe a dramatisation of the Harold Shipman murders without "giving it away"!

I think you have to realise that not everyone knows who Stephen Port is
just as a teenager today may not have heard of Harold Shipman

pje16 wrote:Please discuss as much as you like...
I do get fed up with spoiler alerts
I think they should be reserved for cinema showings where someone has been and others haven't
but Come on,,,, if it is on TV everyone has the opportunity to watch and if you haven't can you really expect everyone to "tip-toe" around you in case you hear/read about it
This is another example of the touchy/feely world we seem to live on these days
