Euro........what?
Oh yes boys and gals, it's back, it's what you all have been waiting for, the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Unmissable, unforgettable and mostly unwatchable
So we have a chance this year of getting into the top 5, some say even win it. That I doubt as just give it to Ukraine right now regardless if its a crappy song or not. Lots of songs on gender bender whatever(not something I totally understand these days but I'm old) and I am what I am(yes I get it) only got to see how you dress darling. Italy again has a strong chance, 2 nice boys complaining about wine being spilled in their bed, amongst other things
Personally, I'm in love with the gal from Malta, mind you I thought their song would win last year but my record since the mid 70s is rather pathetic as only got it right a few times both with Israel in 79 and a few years ago, and Puppet On a string, way way back plus Brother Hood Of Man, forgot the song!
Anyway, thought I would offer you some joy and happiness in these difficult times and leave you with these loverly words below from the Italian song just before I get me coat You can catch up with all the pretty people here.......and naturally their songs.

Shivers
I dreamed of flying with you
On a bike of diamonds
You told me, you've changed
I no longer see the light in your eyes
What is your fear?
A sea where you never touch
Even if sex is not
The way out from the bottom
Come on, don't run away from here
Don't leave me like this
Naked with shivers
Sometimes I don't know how to express myself
And I want to love you, but I'm always wrong
And I want to steal you a sky of pearls
And I would pay to go away
I would even accept a lie
And I want to love you, but I'm always wrong
And I get shivers, shivers, shivers
You, who wake me up in the morning
You, who dirty the bed with wine
You, who bite my skin
With your viper eyes
And you, you are the opposite of an angel
And you, you are like a boxer in the corner
And you run away from here, leaving me like this
Naked with shivers
Sometimes I don't know how to express myself
And I want to love you, but I'm always wrong
And I want to steal you a sky of pearls
And I would pay to go away
I would even accept a lie
And I want to love you, but I'm always wrong
And I get shivers, shivers, shivers
Tell me I'm not right
I live inside a prison
I try to stay close to you
And I'm sorry if I feck it all up
I can't tell you what I feel, it's my limitation
For an "I love you" I mixed drugs and tears
This poison that we spit every day
I don't want it on me anymore
You see, I'm here
On a bike of diamonds, one among many
Naked with shivers
Sometimes I don't know how to express myself
And I want to love you, but I'm always wrong
And I want to steal you a sky of pearls
And I would pay to go away
I would even accept a lie
And I want to love you, but I'm always wrong
And I get shivers, shivers, shivers
Oooooo ahhhhhh(if you made it this far) that's from a breathless me and not part of the song

Re: Euro........what?
If you want to wallow in nostalgia a bit, then the 1974 and 1998 versions are available on iPlayer.
I watched the 1974 version staged in Brighton last night and it really was a different era, both in performance and presentation. Well worth a look if only for a historical perspective.
And if you can't remember who the winner was before watching, you will do as soon as they appear !

1974 is the only time a really decent song won it
No-one else came from obscurity to have the impact they did

Re: Euro........what?
I've not watched the song contest itself for many decades but in the last couple of years I've found it amusing to flick over just for the scoring, and I see nothing much has changed in the geo-political aspects of which countries vote for each other ...

Yes I did
I'm not really a Eurovision fan
But I did remember Abba (not sure if that is a good thing or not)

Aaaaargh! My head hurts!
The instant I read that, I thought: "Yeah, Tony Orlando".
And then I thought: "Why the feck do I still remember that cheesy little creep's name? I always hated the song anyway."
And why has it been clogging up my synapses for the last 48 years? What else could I have been doing with that precious bit of brain space during the intervening half century? Finding a cure for cancer? Cracking the bitcoin algorithms? Remembering what I cooked for supper the day before yesterday?
Dementia beckons. Crap music has a lot to answer for.

Ouch, you got me. The Wurzels were local to where I used to live, and you could hardly avoid them on the folk circuit where I used to play fingerstyle guitar. More recently, I bumped into a couple of them at the local musical instrument auctions. Nice guys. You have to be pretty bright and professional to look that thick and chaotic. And to keep up the act for nearly sixty years.

Re: Euro........what?
I may even watch it this time. Not that I expect any improvement. It's just that I'm desperate for some refreshing frivolity after a diet of depressing, concerning, anxiety-inducing reality. Bring it on.
