Paul McCartney's original Hofner violin bass was stolen in 1969. Does it still exist? Personally, I seriously doubt it.

Presumably he would have put it back after he caught it ..?
(Ah, there's my coat there...)

Who did you pay 50 quid to meet at Cropredy? Dave Swarbrick?
Anyways, perhaps the bass was in the car when Paul died?

It might have been.
Anyway, I tell loads of people I have his bass but they all just laugh at me, and think I'm deluded.
Mebbe they have a point...

Paul's bass is hung on my bathroom wall and when you approach it sings "don't worry be happy"

She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
But now she sucks her thumb and wonders
By the banks of her own lagoon

Latest update from yesterday. (Pun intended)
Following the launch of last year's Lost Bass project, Paul’s 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, which was stolen in 1972, has been returned. The guitar has been authenticated by Höfner and Paul is incredibly grateful to all those involved.

I think you just have an empty case in your attic
I'll give you a fiver for it as I need one now

Well, I was right. Just a pity it wasn't my attic. Wonder if the guy ever realised he had something worth north of £5 million hidden amongst the Xmas decorations and old carpet offcuts.

Well I'm pleased, didn't expect he'd get back the instrument after so long.
