I was just trawling Youtube and came across Michael Bolton singing 'Fathers and daughters', a song I'd not heard before. That led me onto a cover version by a Florida group of brothers called Boyce Avenue, I'd not heard before.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jfuDfJ-CZk.
There's various covers like 'Hallelujah', 'Someone you loved' and 'You're beautiful'. I really enjoyed their versions and there are others available !

I know this is personal opinion and subjective but I came across Chemtrails over the Country Club by Lana Del Ray. This album will be getting some time on my play list. Probably not one for the gym or running, more of a cool down track or relaxing too.

Might have to investigate other things she's done, probably been in the top ten but never noticed her or maybe I will recognise a song when I here it again.

Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm (12" Hot Blooded Version) -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTDPproOUOI

And all these years, I never knew it was Ian McShane that did the voice-intro....

As he tells the story regarding how this happened -

‘I was in a chip shop with Gwen, my wife, and Trevor Horn came in, who I’d known forever. He said ‘Ian, what are you doing after supper?’

‘Why?’

‘Well, I need a voice & Orson Welles is dead...’

Cheers,

Which is quite a leap from Elizabeth Woolridge Grant.

I've listened to several bits of music from this thread that I haven't heard before.. Thanks!

I thought I'd put in a quick word for Radio Paradise for those that haven't heard it. It's an internet radio station that streams a varied and interesting selection of music, uninterrupted by advertising. Instead they invite donations. They also have a phone app that lets you download chunks of music to listen offline, such as in the car.

Perhaps I'm just a sentimental old fool but I really enjoyed this. I've heard it sung several times by dads but this mum's voice and performance was really touching, well it was for me !

I loved her first - Mother to daughter

50 years. 50 friggin' years ago today. Where did they all go?

03Jul71 Jim Morrison died in Paris.

Some of my favourites:
When the Music's Over https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Zzzt_r6wj8
"I want to hear..... the scream of the butterfly"

LA Woman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDlx-ZUj9qs

Riders on the Storm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G2-FPlvY58
I think this was the last track he recorded before going to Paris. Inspired by Ghost Riders in the sky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsfw9CEQITA

Great days

edit..... just another thought... I saw "Riders on the Storm" tribute band (with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger) in Glasgow in 2007 and they played all the Doors stuff brilliantly. And I was struck by the young age of so many of the audience. The majority were born many many years after Morrison died and The Doors ceased to be.

LA Woman - one of my faves!
Trivia Fact: "Mr Mojo Risin' " is an anagram. Doesn't take much working out...

Interesting and much more engaging than the chart version. The venue was a bit of a legend, down near the zoo in Berlin. I used to walk past it on the way to the only major beer shop that was open on Sundays, a bit of an eminent ghost from the past. The venue, not the supermarket :)

Just Youtube it for instant joy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XB6D_pwgy8&t=114s THIN LIZZY at Rockpalast [1981]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUi6GDfni2I Deep Purple - Live Rockpalast - 1985 - (Palais Omnisport Paris) - Full
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhl-e-2vseo Motörhead live (full show) | Rockpalast | 2014
etc by hundreds over decades, effectively it was THE venue in west Berlin for decades....

By the time we lived there the venue had shut. Backing on to the penguin house at Berlin zoo it was ripe for turning into top-end housing. Shame. We saw Motorhead in Berlin and had to travel to some semi-dangerous Lemmy-esque borough in the east like Neukoln or similar... amazing, tickets cost peanuts (that was Motorhead) but a schlep home....

Carly Simon's No Secrets album has always been special to me - I think this somewhat overlooked song is especially poignant as one starts to have grandchildren around
