Kingsman - Golden Circle

5/10. Very patchy film. Spoof silly spy comedy sequel with occasionally bloody violence. Aimed at youth market, but still enjoyable for grown-ups.
If you didn't like the first Kingsman film - well, this isn't as good. There are a surprising number of top stars wasted in this- for example, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges and Elton John. Reminds me of Michael Caine who was once asked why he'd appeared in a particularly bad film, and he said he needed a new kitchen at the time.

The original Kingsman film introduced us to the Kingsman organisation, an independent British spy organisation running out of a tailors, with all its spies immaculately tailored. The sequel introduces an American version of this idea - not particularly successfully.

The humour is closer to fart jokes than Oscar Wilde, and some of the jokes are crap in both senses of the word.
The first half hour of this was so dull and laboured we thought about cutting our losses and walking out, but it picked up considerably after that.
It lacks the central concept and imagination of the original, but still has some good and entertaining scenes. Some of the dialogue is painfully bad, and some of the early scenes should simply have been edited out - the film's overlong at 2 1/4 hours, and there's plenty of dross that wouldn't have been missed. Wittiest thing was the baddie's demands and the USA President's response to them. There's also a good unexpected homage to a James Bond opening scene.

Yes the humour is a bit crude if you want to be stimulated by a great film look elsewhere. This is a tongue in the cheek romp, infinitely more enjoyable than the recent Bond.
Just good fun. I enjoyed it.

Myself and Mrs OLTB enjoyed the first film far more than this follow up - 4/10 on the OLTBometer.

Cheers, OLTB.
