It started as a joke but it went way too far!

Nothing funny here and this may not be the best board but for those who missed it, here's a link to a remarkable rendering by a 22 year old poet laureate of a poem she composed for the occasion today:

Blimey, she's well spoken. Very impressive. Don't listen to much poetry, is it usual to incorporate gesticulation like that? I think it worked. C.

I quite enjoyed Lady Gaga but that minister fellow was boring.

At least Mike Pence had grace and dignity today and behaved like a normal human being.

I did wonder what "form" Trump would use to return - "In some form or other"

I was going to suggest that he might return in the form of a human being, but on reflection, that's too far fetched :)

I wonder what it is about the billionaire Donald Trump that first attracted Melania to him when she was 28 and he was 52?

And I have to say she remains completely loved up now he's 72 and she's only 48.

She's still not as old as he was when she met him. He will be 76 when she is.

Oh the irony. I suppose love could involved. And today DT was heard to say "we love you all". Define love please DT.

Crikey, she is so poised. Biggest occasion in the American calendar and at 23 years old she sounded so assured. Must have a big future. I think I would have dissolved with nerves at that age.

It’s just my age I suppose (I blame everything on that, which is a bit unfair!) but I think of poetry as stuff that scans and rhymes. Everything else is prose. Oh well!

I must admit I agree with you. Additionally if you want to do a speech that people remember and respond to you need to use traditional rhetorical constructs. This often takes a bit of work when writing a speech because the structures are quite poetic in nature although I have used these approaches ex tempore as well.

There is also doggerel, which I think is a great word.

(Not that I thought her poetry was necessarily doggerel, I'm just quibbling that not everything not rhyming and scanning must be prose :D )

Yes! But I loved the illustrations, and the magic of those landscapes still finds echoes when I look around on my surrey-sussex walks.

I don't think I was interested in reading much until I discovered astronomy, and Patrick Moore - and devoured few encyclopedias.

It was quite a struggle to find anything positive to say but I gather he's the first president in 40 years not to start a war.

I guess that certain 3rd World dictators looked at Trump and recognised that he was possibly madder and more egotistical than they were and decided "not to mess" with another dictator who holds the keys to a nuclear [expletive deleted].
