Booze in Scotland
So we can't get hold of the special offers and discount booze.
Absolut Vodka - £15 in England, rather more in Scotland (just one example)
I'm off to visit my sister at the weekend, it's also going to be a booze cruise.

I presume you're looking at Tesco? It's a bit of a strange one - the 70cl for £15 offer isn't available in Scotland despite it still being over the minimum alcohol price. But the 1 litre for £20 is available, despite it being cheaper (and dead on the minimum price it could be).
Scott.

Re: Booze in Scotland
Whisky is available in Tesco in Scotland at £20 for a litre and £14 for 70 cl, with Gordon's Gin at £18.75 for a litre, presumably because it is only 37.5% against 40% for whisky. The price is exactly pro rata the proof.
Didn't look at Vodka though.

Yes, I guess it must be putting the cheapo brands (Glen's vodka etc.) out of business, in Scotland anyway. Why would you bother when the premium brands are the same price?

Re: Booze in Scotland
I'll admit I did no research, just saw an advert that stated "Offer not available in Scotland".

Re: Booze in Scotland
The Lidl Spirits page displays the Scottish price along with the south-of-the-border price.
As already noted, its the cheap brands that will be clobbered. E.G. 1 Litre of "Queen Margot Blended Scotch Whisky" is £14.99 in England, but £20 in Scotland.
I don't drink spirits, so I'm not affected. My grumble (often repeated) is that the tax has no effect on the price of Buckfast - the tipple of choice for our yobs.

"Made by monks; drunk by yobs" could be a handy advertising tagline

You're almost there. "Made by monks, just for drunks". "Bishop's grace, smash in face."
Or maybe just: "Blessings from Devon, shortcut to heaven?"

Re: Booze in Scotland
You get some strange side effects re minimum pricing, my daughter, a PG student, works part time in Asda. As a member of staff she gets discount, usually 10%, but on special days 20%- very useful stocking the house recently for Christmas. The catch on 20% discount days is there is a list of what you can buy re alcohol issued as large number of alcohol purchases would be below minimum pricing with the 20% discount, so our discounted, once a year, drinks cupboard stock up could not have sherry or Cointreau but we did get Jack Daniels and some fancier vodka. (I took pity on my Mother in Law and bought both without the discount)
Still, we now have enough of their mincemeat pies to last well past Christmas.
