Afternoon all
I took my parents to a local pub that served a carvery, close to where they live in Devon at the weekend.
I don't think I've witnessed so much greed from so many people (not my parents!). How can one person eat so much food? The structural engineering required to get that much food on one plate was, admittedly, admirable, but I did so wish to approach these sweaty people and ask why on earth they think they need that much food for a stomach that's as big as their fist? Although, looking at the size of most of them, their stomach's had probably stretched a long way over a number of years. I understand that some people might wish to get their moneys' worth, but this was ridiculous...
Is it just me?
Cheers, OLTB.

That could've been me for much of my life.
I was brought up to "stoke up when you get the chance", because you never know how long it'll be before the next meal.

Re: Other People at a Carvery
There is an element here with some people of getting as much as you can for the money you've paid whether you want all that food or not. Probably many people actually leave a lot on their plate. I avoid carvery's like the plague - they don't appeal much to vegetarians - but I'm less concerned by the amount people eat than the amount they leave in all types of eating places.

Re: Other People at a Carvery
I went to an 'all you can eat' carvery with someone I used to know. They had four platefuls of the main course!
To be fair though, the third plateful was a salad. Gotta stay healthy.

I'd recommend watching people in Las Vegas at a casino buffet (or "boofay" as they pronounce it there).
After that, the folks at a carvery will look like mild grazers.
The casinos encourage people to be weighed down by food so they cannot leave the casino and go anywhere else.

Re: Other People at a Carvery
I do wonder if people pile plates high then scoop soime into "doggy bags" for tomorrow's dinner as well?
(that doesn't make it "right" etc etc etc).

Re: Other People at a Carvery
We took a ferry to the IOM a few years ago. There was an "all you can eat" breakfast being served. The chap at the next table to us came back with a dinner plate piled high with bacon, which he then proceeded to put in a tupperware and into his rucksack before going back for more, repeating the exercise several times whilst we had our breakfast (we left him to it).
We assumed he ran a roadside cafe and it was cheaper to buy a foot passenger ticket than the bacon. Either that, or he was way ahead of Lady Gaga in the wardrobe department

returning on a morning ferry from Ireland a couple years ago, we sat in the canteen area for the journey - there were hardly any passengers on board.
Out came the breakfast platters - sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, toast, black pudding, hash browns.
A few people bought breakfast.
After maybe 45 minutes out came a new tray of egss, and the 80% full previous tray all went in the bin, in full view of everybody.
45 minutes later breakfast service was over and the lot - sausages, bacon etc etc etc - all went in the bin again, in full view of everybody.
Somebody piling plates high with bacon to take home probably makes not difference overall - except the bacon taken away probably doesn't get wasted.
I think I may even have raised it on TMF at the time?
